Weight Loss Shows On TV

I have been watching some of those popular weight loss shows on TV recently and I had to give you my 2 cents on what I see. It drives me crazy when I watch these trainers just kill the participants on the show with tons of cardio, cardio, cardio, weight lifting, and more cardio until they almost drop. I call that “working out” which is fine if a client is ready for that kind of exercise but usually they are not.

At Dunamis Fitness when a client comes to me and I give them a full assessment. I might not let them do any cardio or weight lifting for weeks to even months as they start the program. Sometimes they need to “work in” not “work out.” They might need to cultivate more energy than they are giving out. They might have hormonal issues or stress issues that can be exacerbated by tons of cardio or improper weight training. I have them do things such as yoga, breathing exercises, stretching, slow walking, zone exercises to name a few.

You don’t get healthy by losing weight. You get healthy then you lose the weight. Did you hear me! These programs usually have food programs that will be hard to follow for the rest of their lives as they usually use a 1 size fits all approach.
